PHILANTHROPY
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is every wasted." - Aesop
Every chapter of ADPI is united when it comes to philanthropy. Our national philanthropy is the Ronald McDonald House. We try our very best here at URI to help out the local Ronald McDonald house in Providence, RI. And of course we love to support our fellow Greeks in raising money for their philanthropies!
Each semester, we hold events to help raise money for RMH. This past semester we hosted our first ever "Diamond Dash" which was a race around the quad on our beautiful campus. We have numerous sisters involved with the "Big Brothers, Big Sisters" organization. They donate their time to kids in the surrounding areas. We also raised over $4,000 for Habitat for Humanity during the Spring 2015 semester.
Year round we collect pop tabs. The funds generated from recycling these pop tabs help contribute to the RMH expenses. By doing something so simple it's great to know we are helping out! 1,267 pop tabs are equivalent to one pound and our chapter donated over 20 lbs of pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in May. 500 lbs of pop tabs can help take care of a family for a week!
Each sister is required to complete community service hours. We love getting together to help around campus or the surrounding communities. We participated in a clean up of Fraternity Circle with our fellow greeks, helped out our friends from Sigma Alpha Epsilon with an event on our campus at the Boss Ice Arena by ice skating, face painting and serving pizza to the kids from "Big Brothers, Big Sisters." We also had numerous siters help out with a Bonnet Shores clean up and many times over the past year we have has sisters volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in Providence.
